THE ESSENCE OF DELHI: highlights of then and now

Guided by an expert on Indian Culture and true Delhiite

ESSENCE

The tour starts with breakfast in Old Delhi, a happy mix of commerce, heritage and layers of history. Some famous landmarks in and around the narrow lanes, like Asia’s largest spice market, the fabric and jewellery markets, the town hall, ancient haveli's and temples.

Slowly moving south to New Delhi with its wider lanes, green open areas and famous landmarks like India gate and the Red Fort. From the past, to the young and upcoming. Time for some modern art galleries and design hotspots, followed by a tasty lunch in Shahpur Jat village, an upcoming art and design area of the city.

After lunch we continue even more south to the home of the famous Qutub Minar: the Mehrauli archeological park. This park is a collection of arhictecture from the pages of history – from the first true arch in Balban’s tomb (12th century) to later 16th century Sultanate architecture and Mughal and British colonial experiments in architecture. Tour ends around 5 pm.
